The college experience at Murray State begins with Racer Nation Orientation. All new incoming freshmen and transfer students are expected to attend one of the eight one-day sessions available. Racer Nation Orientation has been designed to assist you in developing an understanding of the transition you will make to your collegiate environment and to enhance your success in college.
For our incoming freshmen, attending orientation will be your earliest chance to register for fall classes. If you do not attend an orientation session, you are not allowed to sign up for classes until after the last orientation session occurs.
For our transfer students, we encourage you to contact your academic advisor before you attend an orientation session and schedule your classes as soon as possible.

Transfer students are expected to attend Racer Nation Orientation; however, we encourage you to contact your academic advisor before you attend your orientation session to create your class schedule for the fall semester as soon as possible.

Yes, students must participate throughout the entire day to register for classes. Students who arrive late or leave early will be required to reschedule for another date.

The program itself is very informal. You should bring:
* Cool, comfortable clothes * Comfortable walking shoes * Umbrella if rain is predicted
If you plan to take placement tests, you should bring the latest copy of your ACT scores.

Yes, the orientation fee is $130. This fee covers all costs for the student and overall program operations. This fee is required at the time you make your reservation. You can pay online with either a credit or debit card. If you do not have access to this, please call the Office of Recruitment for assistance at 800-272-4678 ext 2.

Yes, orientation to college is as important to parents and guests as it is to students. That is why we have designed an orientation program for parents and guests which coincide with the student's schedule. Parents and guests will be with their student at the beginning of the day and then parents and guests will be in sessions designed to address their questions and concerns.

All of the Summer Orientation programs are one day and do not require an overnight stay. However, if you are driving a long distance you may choose to come the night before. On the Summer O website, there is a link to hotel information under " Accommodations". No, your tuition and fees bill will be emailed to your Murray State email address around mid-July if you have already attended orientation by that time. If you attend one of the later programs, your bill will be emailed a few days after that session. Please make a payment by the date shown on the bill to avoid your class schedule being cancelled. If you have any questions regarding billing, Bursar's Office personnel will be available during orientation, or you may call them at 800-272-4678 ext. 5.

To change your date, you may log in to your MyGate account, access your Summer Orientation registration and change your date from the "Dates" menu on the left. The Murray State Honors College is designed to enrich the educational experience of highly motivated students by increasing the opportunity for interacting with outstanding faculty, both in small class settings such as Honors seminars, and in ongoing research experiences. The Honors College emphasizes enriched versions of the university studies requirements during the freshman and sophomore years. On the junior and senior levels, it supplements the specialized course work with individual study and research.
Students must possess an ACT score of 28 or above, or a 3.5 GPA, or be in the top 10% of your graduating HS class and complete a separate application to be considered for admission to the Honors College.
